The birth of our son was extremely not smooth, and we truly could not have done it without Katy. She is highly knowledgeable, very calm in intense situations, and deeply caring.
The night our son was born, Katy came over to our house on short notice and coached me through intense contractions until we left for the hospital. She advocated for me and helped my partner get information from the medical team as I underwent an emergency c-section under general anesthesia. She also supported my partner as he was meeting our son for the first time without me. Did I mention this all happened within a few hours? It was a lot.
When I finally came to in the middle of the night, Katy was there. She got me and my son some belated skin-to-skin time and helped with his first latch.
In addition to her support on the day/night of, she met with us several times before and after: helping us come up with a birth plan, supporting us with breastfeeding challenges in the postpartum period, and facilitating us in recording our birth story to process what happened.
We are so grateful to have had Katy by our side through this wild and vulnerable journey.
