We decided to use a doula at the suggestion of some of our friends and ended up speaking with three potential candidates. While all of them were great choices, we felt an instant connection and comfortability with Shannon. We are first time parents (and overthinkers) and Shannon put us at ease with her calm demeanor, birthing knowledge, and reassurance. I walked into the experience with a fear of childbirth and left feeling confident, prepared, and ready for the whole birthing experience. She came to our house twice for prenatal appointments, met us in the hospital during labor, and visited us once again for a postpartum appointment. The prenatal appointments answered so many questions I had about childbirth and provided insight into how I could best be prepared. During labor, her presence was invaluable. While we were happy with our hospital choice, the nurses/doctors/etc. were in and out of our room a lot since they were helping many patients, so it was amazing to have Shannon with us the whole time. She was able to explain hospital procedures, help me with different laboring positions, and overall create a calming and peaceful environment while we were there. During the postpartum visit, she was able to help with breastfeeding, fill in some gaps of what we missed during labor, and answer any questions we had. We truly could not have done this without her and are so very thankful we found Shannon!
