A week before I went into labor with my first baby, I was introduced to Dawn. We had a phone call and I was instantly put at ease by her rational approach to all things labor, postpartum and baby. My husband and I hired Dawn to help out twice a week during the days when my husband was at his graduate program, and I am so glad and fortunate that we did. Dawn's expertise spans so many disciplines and skillsets. She helped me cross over into motherhood with grace, dignity and support. Every day looked different, and she let me know that that was perfectly normal. Some days I needed support with baby and help getting her down for a long nap, other days Dawn took baby and pup out for a walk so I could have a moment to myself, and many of the days Dawn helped me organize my life, my things, and my feelings. Dawn cooked so much delicious, nourishing food for us and let me talk at her about my labor, birth, and family. Dawn taught me different ways to feed, gave me tips on pumping, and in all ways was a caregiver to both my baby and me. No matter what the day or week looked like, every time Dawn left my home, I felt myself feeling more grounded, more "together", more supported, and more like myself. Dawn was an extremely loving, trustworthy and stabilizing force in my early motherhood journey and I know that I am without a doubt better off because she was on this path with us. I was able to heal and build this new version of my life feeling very empowered, informed, and cared for.
