While the hospital nurses were spinning their wheels following hospital protocol rather than actually helping me, Carol was focused on me and where I was at in the labor. She was the only one in the room with me and my husband when our daughter was born, and encouraged my husband to catch the baby since our midwife had not arrived yet. Compared to my two previous deliveries without a doula, it was so helpful to have someone at my side being calm and collected--especially at a hospital, which is not a calm environment.
