I don't know that I have the right words to describe how invaluable Jackie was to our pregnancy, labor and delivery, and post partum. From the hands-on, evidence based education during pregnancy to the in-person support through a 55+ hour L&D. Jackie was truly our guiding light.
I did not have an easy pregnancy - from morning sickness (more like all-day sickness) that lasted 4+ months to then extreme discomfort and swelling by the end... it was no easy time. However, the trainings, check-ins and resources that Jackie and her team at District Doulas provided really helped us feel less "in the dark". She was available for questions, big and small and just helped ensure we didn't feel alone in this crazy thing called creating human life.
Despite many natural induction options that we tried, our little girl did not want to arrive on her own, so we ended up with a medical induction at 41+5. From start to finish, my labor lasted over 55 hours and involved a whole slew of interventions to keep things moving along. Jackie was there every step of the way, helping us make informed decisions, advocate for ourselves when we wanted to see if things would progress on their own, and hold our hands as things got more intense.
My delivery was anything but simple and we did have some complications at the last minute that led to our girl being in the NICU and needing to be transferred to a new hospital. Jackie's strength helped me and my husband stay together as we watched the NICU staff save our little girl and stitch me up. It's cheesy, but looking into Jackie's eyes during that insane time gave us the strength we needed to get through the hardest thing we've ever done. She was our calming presence, even while everything else around us spun. Things rarely ever go to plan, but we made it through, truly thanks to Jackie. I could not recommend her enough!
