As a labor and delivery nurse myself, I knew how important it was to have the right support team in place once I decided to TOLAC - and choosing to work with The Birth Collective was the best decision! From the beginning, our prenatal visit was full of great early labor education even with my professional background - and helped to provide clear expectations and guidance, especially for my husband! We wish we’d had that meeting before the birth of our first. One thing I was nervous about was how busy the group seemed to be, and also the distance from the South Sound since we live in North Seattle and would be delivering at First Hill. Neither was an issue whatsoever! Austin was on-call and incredibly responsive and helpful. She knew when it was time to come to us, even before we could explicitly ask. I was feeling worried about reliving parts of my previous birth experience, and that anxiety mixed with the labor pain was hard to manage at first when we got to triage. But she jumped right in with hands-on counter pressure, a TENS unit and breathing techniques, and instantly brought a steady sense of calm and reassurance. During labor, her expertise made all the difference. She understood my “dream” goal of pursuing an unmedicated VBAC if labor was progressing and I was coping, and she offered exactly the right encouragement and support to help me stay the course. Sort of “stringing me along” from one point to the next (in a good way!) I assumed I would get an epidural. But Austin’s skills helped me navigate each stage of labor beyond my assumptions! She advocated for me to get checked before making pain management decisions, and had the tub filling so it was ready when I was. Somehow, during all of this she also captured beautiful, meaningful photos. I’m incredibly grateful for her care. It’s clear that she is doing the work that she is meant to do, and I would wholeheartedly recommend Austin!
