Teresa flaked for our child's birth and did not fulfill her contract. One of her references also shared that Teresa tried to skip their birth at the hospital until they threatened consequences for breaching the contract, so this may be a pattern.
While I was in labor, she texted that she was unsure she could join us at the hospital because she might not have enough emotional bandwidth, citing personal reasons. She also pestered me and by husband with multiple texts to jump on the phone and zoom to meet a doula-in-training in case she can't come. Needless to say, you don't need this type of uncertainty, emotional baggage, and distraction during labor. Fortunately, her back-up doula met us at the hospital eventually and was great.
Teresa also never fulfilled the contract's 2 Postpartum visits and never offered a discount or refund.
We would advise anyone considering hiring her to consider the risks of a no-show, discuss clear plans of a back-up in advance (and meeting the back-up doula before, not during, labor), and outlining clear consequences and refunds in the event of a breach of contract. Also be aware that hiring her may risk adding emotional baggage, uncertainty, and distractions to your birth.
