Sarah was our night doula from the day we brought our first baby home from the hospital until he was over 10 weeks old. Even though I was exclusively breastfeeding during that time, having Sarah allowed my husband to get a full night's sleep on the nights she was with us, and it allowed me to get extra rest and have peace of mind that someone was with my baby while I was sleeping. I suffered from postpartum anxiety which made it challenging to let other people care for my son, but I always felt like Sarah truly cared about him and took extra steps to make sure he was safe (she masks during her visits, washes her hands upon arrival, etc.).
It was also helpful to have someone to talk to about all of the postpartum challenges as a new mom - she's a great listener and can share her own experiences as well as other babies she's worked with so you feel like you're not alone in what you're going through. She took tasks off our plate while we were sleeping like doing our baby's laundry, washing & sterilizing baby dishes, and she made sure I was taking care of myself and staying hydrated. She was also a source of wisdom that we lacked as first time parents. Sarah got us through many tough nights and we always looked forward to having her. From our first meeting, we appreciated that Sarah knew a lot about babies and was a mom herself, but she also followed our lead, making us more comfortable and confident parents.
