I was recommended to the Birth Collective group that Austin is a part of by two friends, and was so impressed that I didn’t interview any other doulas. I am so glad I went with them! I felt so supported throughout my pregnancy by Austin and her counterparts, and was able to text them to ask for advice in a way that my OB could never have supported. When labor came, it was prodromal and stalled out for several days before picking up again. They talked me through it the whole time, and kept me from freaking out and going to the hospital too soon. Once it picked up again, I labored “comfortably” at home with Austin's guidance. The labor itself at the hospital was much easier with Austin’s help, as she was able to explain to me what was happening as the nurses were busy doing it. There was a scary moment where the baby's heart rate dropped during a contraction, but the nurses just started touching me and said turn over and didn't explain why. Austin stopped to say "the baby's heart rate is dropping and turning will help," which I needed to hear so I understood to move quick. I so appreciated that! I felt very cared for and like nothing was being missed, so that my husband and I were able to enjoy the moment knowing we were in good hands. Plus - the photos after were amazing! I didn’t realize I’d want them, but gosh am I glad to have them. Austin was with us the WHOLE time until we switched rooms to the post partum suite, and even helped me learn to breast feed. Thanks Austin!
