Testimonial for Christie Williams
We met Christie when looking for a local Bradley Method class. She did an incredible job teaching the class, drawing from the course, new research, and her own experiences with birth as a mother and doula. As a third time mom myself, I had already experienced and knew quite a bit about birth, but Christie's teaching really helped me get prepared for labor again. As we got to know Christie, we decided to work with her for our birth too. During our prenatal meetings, she addressed my prep, our birth plan, and dove into the stressors we were facing at that time. When it came time to give birth, well, our plan was out the window! At 37 weeks/4 days, I was diagnosed with preeclampsia while Christie was out of town at a family event (this was right before Christmas!), and I had to be induced. We had planned a home birth so I was heartbroken that plans had changed. In addition to changed plans, I had never been induced before so I was very nervous about the medications and how labor would progress. Christie talked me through it all and helped me accept this new unplanned course of labor. She helped us decide which medication to use for induction and helped me understand that because my body had already given birth naturally twice, that the likelihood of natural contraction kicking in was high. Even though Christie was out of town, she was available to us every step of the way. We texted and called her throughout the induction process and labor. She also connected us with a back up doula, Alex, who arrived just before I started pushing and really helped me through the last bit of transition and through pushing. Christie was the perfect person to be our doula because of her deep knowledge and experience with hospital, home births, and the medical system. I believe God put her in our lives for this birth and He answered our prayers in a way I could not have expected. We love Christie and are so thankful for her role in bringing Miles into the world!
