During my pregnancy, I moved to Vancouver Island. My doula, Ariel, introduced me to Thalia because she needed a back up in case she couldn’t get to me in time. Thalia is a warm and caring person. She has experience attending births in various facets from hospital to free births. Although I was not in her direct care during pregnancy, she still took care of me full heartedly. In my third trimester after giving my birth plan to my midwife, she indicated that my birth plan was not going to work with her. I had requested to not have continuous fetal monitoring checks and also no vaginal checks unless I requested. Because of this, my midwife said that my unusual request would make me a difficult case - and she could only think of one midwife in the area that would be willing to work with me. After that appointment I tried searching for a midwife that would fit with what I was looking for - a right of choice in my birth. I found Amanda and read her website bio and it just seemed right. I then reached out to Amanda and waited to see if she would be willing to take me on (two weeks before my due date!) Ariel mentioned what I had went through with Thalia and asked if she knew of Amanda. Before I know it, Thalia had put in a call to Amanda as they had worked together before. So much happened in between, but long story short, Amanda was my attending midwife during the birth of my baby. Thalia deeply cares for those in her life and she is someone you need to be as your voice when you are in your most vulnerable state. She protects you, your space so you can have the birth that you intended it to be.
