I am very disappointed to write this, but I feel it’s important to share my experience for other expecting mothers.
I hired Suzie as my doula based on her positive reviews. Earlier in my pregnancy, communication was minimal but acceptable. However, at 35–37 weeks pregnant, I experienced repeated and significant communication gaps that ultimately led me to lose confidence in her reliability.
At 35 weeks, I reached out while in distress with important questions and did not receive a response for four days, despite multiple texts and calls. My concerns were not addressed, and I only heard back after reaching out again.
In a subsequent instance at 36–37 weeks, I experienced another extended gap of nearly a week (Wednesday morning to Tuesday evening) without a response while attempting to coordinate care.
This occurred during a stage of pregnancy where labor can begin at any time, and when timely, dependable communication is especially critical.
It’s also important to note that her contract states that messages should be returned within 24 hours. This expectation was not met on multiple occasions.
At this stage, consistent communication is essential. These repeated lapses made me feel unsupported during a critical time and raised concerns about dependability for both birth and postpartum care.
Because of this, I made the decision to find a new doula on short notice.
Suzie is kind and soft-spoken, but based on my experience, this level of communication so close to birth was not something I could rely on.
I would also encourage expecting mothers to consider recommendations from their midwife’s network, as consistency and reliability are often reflected in those professional relationships.. something that can be difficult to assess otherwise.
