Barbie is incredible, & I am beyond grateful to have connected with her for the birth of our third baby this past December. My only regret? Not having used her for my first two pregnancies and births! She is a wealth of knowledge for birth, prenatal, and postpartum support. From the moment we first spoke on the phone, I was blown away. She is a natural connector, nurturing, kind, & I felt as though I had known her forever.
After a relatively uneventful first birth, & a traumatic second birth that ended in a C-Section, I shared my wishes for this third pregnancy & delivery at length with her. We reviewed ways to support the best possible outcome, discussed my curiosity about homebirth, my wishes for a VBAC, & I felt empowered & knowledgeable about my options.
At about 28 weeks, I expressed that I wasn't feeling 100% confident about my OBGYN practice and provider, & I wanted to seek alternative support for my VBAC wishes. I was anxious about this decision heading into my third trimester and Barbie went above & beyond, assuring me & pointing me to a midwifery practice within her network of connections. I quickly learned how well-known, connected, & respected she is in Rhode Island's birth & motherhood community. Switching to Midwifery care was the second best decision I made & I believe it was a huge reason why I had such a redemptive & peaceful birth. I don't believe I would have had the knowledge & confidence to do it so late in the game without her cheering me on.
Some people are born to do certain things, & being a Doula is that for Barbie - she was made for it. I am so grateful for her friendship, the incredible birth photos and videos she took for us, the detailed birth timeline she created, and her postpartum visits to check in on us, which I will cherish forever.Thank you endlessly!
