When I was deciding on a doula, Liza immediately stood out. With over 450 births attended around the world, she brought not just delivery expertise but a rare global perspective on how birth is approached across cultures. What also drew me to her was the balance of nurturing and directness — I knew I'd need someone who could advocate firmly with medical staff when I was too deep in labor to speak for myself. That turned out to matter more than I could have imagined.
As the first of my friends to have a baby, and without close family nearby, I leaned on Liza heavily to prepare. She guided me through mental exercises for labor, and helped me build what my nurses called the most thorough birth plan they had ever seen. During a grueling labor — four hours of unmedicated contractions followed by four hours of pushing — she was my anchor. She coached me through the most physically and mentally demanding experience of my life.
Postpartum, Liza came to our home and transformed those early days. She helped me with latching, positioning, and taught me side-lying nursing, which made middle-of-the-night feeds so much more restful for both of us. She checked our baby carrier fit, and introduced me to belly binding and belly massage as part of my recovery — ancient practices I wouldn't have known to seek out. My husband said that of everything we did during and after pregnancy, Liza was the single best investment we made.
We didn't have a village or nearby family to rely on. Liza was that village. I would recommend her to anyone without hesitation, and would absolutely use her again.
