Melanie was a wonderful doula, helping us through what turned out to be a complicated birth for our first child. We really valued Melanie's direct communication with us and with the hospital staff. She advocated with and for us throughout the process, and was great at building trust with the midwives, doctor, and nurses. She helped us recognize and face challenges that arose unexpectedly during the birth and made sure we had the information and the time we needed to make decisions about pain management and eventually a c-section. In what could have been a much more difficult and potentially traumatizing experience, she helped us process everything with grace and skill--both during and after the birth. We are so joyful about our new queer family, and so grateful to have had Melanie help us through an important part of our making it.
