We were so lucky to have Alex with us for the birth of our beautiful daughter. My partner and I are in a same-sex relationship and we're both from mixed heritage, so it was really important for us to have someone we felt completely safe with, who just got us. Alex flew all the way from New York to London to be there, staying for two weeks before the birth and a week after. Having her with us in those weeks leading up to labour made such a difference - she helped us set up our space, prepare mentally, and think about what we needed for both the birth and those early days afterwards.
We had planned a home birth but ended up needing an emergency C-section, and through it all, Alex was just incredible. During contractions she was literally the one who got me through the pain - pressing down on my hips to relieve the pressure on my lower back - and I remember that constant, calming presence so clearly. She and my partner worked together to set up little stations around the house so I could move where I needed without thinking about anything. I felt completely supported, safe, and surrounded by care.
It meant so much that she was also there for my partner - making sure she felt supported, involved, and able to take a break when she needed one. Alex managed to hold space for both of us at once, which made the whole experience that much more special.
We honestly couldn’t have asked for more. Having her with us during such a vulnerable and life-changing time was something we’ll always be grateful for. Alex will always be part of our birth story.
