My sister recommended Michele and the District Doulas to me (Michele was her doula for two births), and I am so glad that Michele was my doula at my recent labor and delivery with my second child.
It was clear from the outset that Michele is an extremely experienced doula, has seen many different scenarios play out during labor and delivery, and would be a knowledgable, steadying, and important addition to my birth support team. In our meeting with Michele to decide on a birth plan, she asked thoughtful questions to get to know me and how I hoped labor and delivery would go, answered questions with evidence-based information and didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear, and she has an overall great demeanor that I really connected with. When I went into labor, she quickly jumped into action to meet us at the hospital at roughly the same time, even though we live much closer to it. During labor, Michele made different helpful suggestions for my mindset, for alternative positions to try during contractions, and she offered a variety of different support tools to find something that helped. She made sure everyone in the L&D room was aware of my birth plan and was a calming and encouraging presence and largely contributed to my ability to achieve my goal of an unmedicated birth.
Michele is extremely experienced, knowledgeable, comforting, and very familiar with the hospital (GW) and the midwife who delivered my baby, which all contributed to an extremely positive experience. Michele really listened to me and was very engaged throughout the entire time I've worked with her. You can tell being a doula is not just a job but a calling for her, and I'm so grateful to have had her by my side.
