I didn't know much about doulas or why to get one. But my company offered Carrot, which gives you the ability to get a doula and get it reimbursed, so I thought - why not! Knowing what I know now, and how incredibly helpful Stephanie was, I would have paid double! I tell everyone single one of my friends that a doula should be a non-negotiable, especially when having your first baby.
Stephanie started working with us a few months before I gave birth and she taught us SO much that by the time we got to the hospital, I wasn't even nervous. But even at the hospital, it was so valuable to have someone there to advocate for me, help my husband HELP me, and just be a kind, familiar face during a somewhat scary situation. Stephanie was so supportive - with whatever decisions we wanted to make - and was always patient with us; never making us feel like we had to go one way or another. She was our doula, but also part therapist!
My pregnancy, labor, birth, and post-birth was such a great experience because of her - always available for questions, freak-outs, or just to talk. I highly, highly recommend and am so grateful to her.
