Katharine was everything I wanted in a doula and more. She's evidence-based, adapts to you and whatever needs / requests / quirks you have, has tonnes of experience (something I realized was VERY important given no two births are the same and you want someone who isn't surprised by anything + knows what support and advice to provide in all kinds of situations). I wanted a low intervention birth, but ended up needing to be induced, and opted for an epidural. Some people might think you don't need a doula if you end up with an epidural but this was when Katharine really shone - massaging me to help me sleep, knowing how to mix the monotonous hospital drinks to make them more delicious, supporting my partner to get some sleep so he would be rested for the sleeplessness in days to come, and even knowing the right questions to ask during all the waiting, to foster good conversation, warm feelings and reflective moments as time ticked toward our little human emerging earth side. We also had no idea how helpful it was that she doubles as a lactation consultant - in hindsight I would recommend every (especially new) mum have a one (specifically an IBCLC who do hundreds of hours of practical training) ready to meet them in the few days after birth, and if you hire Katharine as a doula than you already have someone you're very comfortable with ready to come over before you even realize there might be an issue that needs addressing. She's a dream. Hire her!
