It’s taken me 5 years, 2 births (and 1 pending), to write this..Yeah motherhood got busy, but truly the procrastination came from feeling that words could never convey the true gratitude I have for Sarah, Austin, & Bree… let alone share the life-changing impact they had on my birth experiences! I feel like every pregnant woman deserves to know they exist.
I’ve now had the privilege of having 2 of the 3 doulas support me through my first 2 births, and as I prepare for my 3rd, I feel ridiculously lucky that one of them will be there! At this point, hiring them feels less like a luxury and more like a non-negotiable.
What makes them extraordinary isn’t just what they do during labor..It’s the way they guide you long before birth even begins. Twice now, they’ve been the reason I made huge provider changes halfway through pregnancy that completely changed the trajectory of my birth experiences.
Birth is unpredictable. You don’t always know which midwife will be there, plans shift, and there are moments where you just need someone steady to look at and think, “Okay… if she’s calm, I’m calm.” That’s what they were for me both times. My anchor. My security blanket. My voice of “you’re doing exactly what you’re supposed to be doing.”
They helped me feel powerful. Not in a cheesy inspirational quote way, but in a real, gritty, in-the-trenches way where you realize mid-contraction that your body actually knows what it’s doing!
I am endlessly grateful for them, and if you’re even thinking about hiring a doula, stop thinking and hire these women.
Your future laboring self will thank you!!
