As a husband going into the birth of our child, I wasn’t exactly sure what my role would look like or how best to support my wife during labor. Working with our doula, Terry, made a huge difference for both of us. She spent time walking us through the entire labor process so we knew what to expect at each stage, which helped ease a lot of the uncertainty.
One thing I really appreciated was how she involved me directly. Terry shared practical tips on how I could help my wife feel more comfortable throughout labor, things like positioning, comfort techniques, and ways to stay calm and supportive when things got intense.
She also did something I didn’t expect but found incredibly helpful: we role-played different scenarios we might encounter at the hospital. This helped us think through how to communicate with medical staff and advocate for our preferences while still being flexible if things changed.
By the time labor came, I felt much more prepared and confident in how to support my wife. Terry’s guidance made the whole experience feel less overwhelming and more like something we could handle as a team. I would highly recommend her to any couple preparing for childbirth.
