I didn't want a doula and didn't know what they did. Why have another person complicate things? We are having a hospital birth at a good hospital with good doctors and nurses.
After many discussions with the wife, we decided to go ahead and bring Kira in for consultation.
The first few meetings we went over quite a few pre-birth questions about what we want and didn't want in the delivery room. My wife thought it was great and I just was there. Very thorough and very organized but I still wasn't sold on the importance of a doula. My wife was happy and so we kept it going.
Then the delivery day... oh boy... what can I say about the woman that did so much to bring my daughter into this world?
I didn't want to bother Kira so late at night... but then my wife started having very powerful contractions and she said, "call Kira right now!"
Kira came immediately and jumped right in following every procedure we previously discussed... she took control of the situation and knew exactly what to do at every step. I didn't have to worry about anything... nothing... Kira had our playbook and I could just focus on my wife. Kira massaged my wife, directed her to more comfortable positions and took lead of directing the nurses.
When the doctor came in for the delivery, Kira was the right hand. Calm, collective, and in control... she assisted the doctor as the nurses watched.
As the husband...I cannot express this enough... every man should bring in a doula... without exception...I highly recommend Kira.
There is nothing I can say to express how I feel about Kira and what she did... there are no words. I am a calm guy... but when I saw my wife go through that pain, I was lost...I couldn't fix it...I didn't know what to do. Kira knew exactly what to do and all I had to do was hold my wife's head and tell her I love her.
