When we were looking for a doula, having someone DONA certified (and certified in both birth and postpartum support) was key. Stacey fit that criteria, and her evidence-based approach and up-to-date vaccinations were also very important for us. Before the baby was born Stacey encouraged us to think about what we wanted to do in various situations and what was most important for us. We hadn't thought of all those considerations, so having her ask us to think in concrete terms about what our priorities were was really helpful. Having support after our baby arrived was really nice during those early days. One thing I particularly appreciated was that Stacey came prepared, her lactation cookies were delicious and she made energy bites while I caught up on much needed sleep-- they were a lifesaver when we were exhausted and in absolutely no shape to cook! If you're on the fence about hiring a birth and postpartum doula, I'd encourage you to go for it. Having that extra support during and after birth is something I'd recommend to any new parent.
