This was my second birth, but in many ways it was easier than my first, when I had an epidural but no doula—which sounds insane, I know. I sincerely believe it’s because we had Susannah on our team. When I first connected with Susannah, I shared concerns about my current provider’s options for twin deliveries, as I strongly wanted to deliver both babies vaginally, even if one baby was breech. Twins can be so complicated. Susannah used her experience and deep knowledge to guide us toward a provider who could better support our birth goals and preferences.
Ultimately, I was able to deliver both babies vaginally without any pain medication—my ultimate goal, achieved! I truly believe Susannah’s confidence in me, along with her support before, during, and after birth, made this possible. Labor and delivery require full surrender, which can be incredibly difficult in a hospital setting. Susannah protected my “labor-land” bubble with such strength and ease, creating an atmosphere where I felt safe enough to let go of all worries and allow my body and mind to fully focus on laboring my two babies. She supported my labor naturally through movement, a beautifully relaxing bath that became my sanctuary during transition, essential oils that eased my nausea, and so much more. After baby A was born and placed skin-to-skin with my husband, Susannah stepped seamlessly into the support role as I delivered baby B, holding my hand and offering gentle words of affirmation.
