Testimonial for Mia Gertsch
This review is very overdue! I also had to limit this glowing review due to word count. Mia was my doula for the birth of my son in September. I wanted an unmedicated birth at one of the major birthing hospitals. Of course, in my preparations, I also saw how helpful having a doula would be for this goal. I interviewed 4 doulas and felt things click with Mia immediately. The other doulas seemed to have their own biases, but Mia was very open - she actually listened to what *I* wanted and why.
Prior to his birth, she was readily available for questions. Her 3 pre-partum visits to our house were extremely helpful. I feel like we went into the birth with her having a full understanding of my desires and goals. Part of that included her asking me what things I would find helpful in the moment.
When I went into labor, I texted Mia at midnight and she responded right away. She came to my house and helped me labor at home for several hours. When we got to the hospital, she never left my side. My husband and her took turns providing counter pressure which was the only thing that helped. I was pressured by the OBs to consider an epidural, but Mia very calmly advocated for me and kept me focused. She helped reassure us that the scarier parts of labor were normal. She even took hundreds of pictures throughout the labor and immediately after that I will cherish forever. She stayed with us up until we were settled in our post partum room.
She checked on me periodically via text over the next several days. I wanted to breastfeed and had struggled for weeks. Around 10 weeks postpartum, she came to my house and suggested a different technique and position and our problems were immediately solved. We have been breast feeding pain free ever since.
Do yourself a huge favor and hire Mia for your birth. If we decide to have more children, she will be the first person I call after getting a positive test!
