Hilary was our birth doula for our second baby, and we couldn’t have imagined the experience without her. My first birth ended up being an epidural birth despite my original plans to go unmedicated, so this time I was determined to try again. From our first Zoom call, I knew we clicked. Hilary took detailed notes on my previous experience and was dedicated to ensuring this birth felt different for me. Throughout my pregnancy, she was a constant support, pointing me toward excellent resources whenever I reached out.
Because labor started a little early (at 37 weeks and 5 days), we were caught off guard and didn't even have a backup plan for our older daughter yet. Hilary stayed in close contact from the moment things started at 1 AM helping us navigate the early morning hours.
Once we got to the hospital, her arrival brought an immediate sense of relief to both me and my husband. Even though the labor was very short and intense, Hilary was right there encouraging me and guiding me through the transitions while simultaneously helping my husband look after our daughter. She acted as our advocate with the nursing staff, ensuring our birth plan was respected even when I was in the thick of it. Thanks to Hilary, the process felt smooth and supported and i was able to get the birth experience I wanted this time around.
