It is actually kind of difficult to put how wonderful our experience was with Ashley. We started off the journey with a thorough discussion of what our ideal birth and care plan looked like. There were so many things I had never heard of before or would have even thought of for a labor. During labor, having that additional voice and support was beyond comforting for my partner and I. I had a medical condition that required surgery pretty immediately after birth, I was unable to help my partner after surgery due to being moved to the ICU. Ashley checked in with my partner to make sure he had the support as a new dad who also had to worry about my wellbeing, knowing that while in the ICU immediately relieved so much stress and anxiety. One service I was beyond excited for was artistic prints of my placenta, typically this is done with the entire organ, mine didn’t cooperate and was in pieces. She still worked magic and created us a beautiful piece of art that reminds me everyday that I’m thankful for the outcome we had. Ashley also has supported recovery of postpartum, like lactation support, for me this also has been detrimental of postpartum because instead of feeling like I was just talking to a professional it has felt like a friend, as I’m not super open about breastfeeding and other things alike. My partner and I have said so many times how truly grateful we are for making the decision to go with a doula and that person being Ashley. While we are only having one child, I wouldn’t hesitate to have Ashley be our doula again.
