Laurie is truly the best doula a family could ever ask for! From the first time we met online to the postpartum visit including a massage(!), her presence, advice and knowledge made our experiences as first-time parents as smooth as it could have been.
During the two prenatal meetings, Laurie took time to learn our preferences in medications, pain management, communications and other aspects that may be relavent during labor by asking detailed questions. One of my favorite questions was "how do you react when stressed/under pressure?". Questions like this not only let her do her job better but also reminded ourselves what to expect from each other on the big day.
On the day planned for induction, Laurie and her doula partner Marni took turns to stay with us throught the process. Their presences were calming and reassuring. They reminded me that I have options for certain medical procedures; they provided gentle touches and aromatherapy that made my waiting time and the contractions much more barable; they also guided me to use deep breathing to relax my mind and body. In particular, I appreciated Laurie reminded the nurse to check in with the anesthesiologists again after me waiting for the requested epidural for what felt like a century. That was much needed since the pain was taking over me and my partner was also overwhelmed. During the pushing phase, Laurie also helped the nurse and suggegsted different positions while encorgaing me along the way.
Her postpartum visit was heart-warming as well. We talked to her about our first week of parenting and asked for advice on working with our baby nurse, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery. She really knows it all! She also sent us a list of parenting resources with detailed notes! Last but not least, the postpartum massage she gave was just what every birthing parent needs.
