As first time parents, we weren’t initially sure if a doula was something that we needed but everyone said they are worth it and that couldn’t be more true of Cassie! We interviewed at least six other doulas and she was the only one that immediately felt like speaking to an old friend.
Her time investment was incredibly beneficial, both before and at the birth. Between Zoom get-to-know-you meetings, emails with helpful resources, reassuring texts, and constant support at the hospital - I don’t know what I would have done without her. My concern was more for my partner than myself, and Cassie was able to manage my comfort, which kept his anxiety down. As someone who leans more towards being an introvert, I was struck by Cassie’s ability to automatically connect with everyone who came into the hospital room in some meaningful way. It really put everyone at ease and made the experience enjoyable.
Our baby was born via C-section and Cassie was there holding my barf bag so it was one less thing for my partner to worry about in the whirlwind that is an operating room. She took great photos of the experience and I’m so thankful I have them to remember the experience and show my daughter when she gets older. I am grateful for meeting such a funny, transparent, and empathetic person and I hope she continues to be part of mine and my family's life. She’s no longer my doula - now she’s someone I consider a friend.
