Working with Shelia was an amazing experience! When we first looked into doulas we didn't really know what to expect from the experience, only that they can provide some support around the birth and help be an advocate for us in the delivery room (and thankfully insurance is starting to cover some of the cost, so we figured we may as well give this doula thing a try). Wow! Little did we know that choosing Shelia (and Lisa, they work together up until the delivery so answers are quick and they can cover for each other) would be one of the most impactful decisions for us! Leading up to the delivery, Shelia and Lisa answered so many questions that we had and cut through the noise of internet / social media "advice", provided excellent excercises to help get momma and baby ready for the big day, and generally helped keep nerves at bay.
Once we were in the hospital, Shelia was invaluable. She greeted us when we arrived and it was so nice to see a familiar face radiating confidence and peace as we were nervous about the labor. She got us situated, made sure that Mary's concerns were heard and addressed, and was ready with a Tens machine to help Mary through the early labor. When we had everything under control, she went home for a bit to sleep (we were there overnight for an induction), but as soon as we messaged her to say that the labor pains were getting intense she was immediately responsive and was back at the hospital in less than half an hour. I cannot stress enough how helpful it was to have her there during that time - both for me and Mary.
Once we got to the pushing stage, Shelia was once again so helpful. She guided Mary through various positions and techniques to get baby delivered without tearing, and made sure that I always had a job to do so that I felt invovled and useful.
I should also mention that she integrated with the medical staff seemlessly!
Postpartum support has also been great!
