Testimonial for Dawn Batson
I cannot imagine having gone through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum without Dawn's support, advocacy, and knowledge. Dawn is a consummate professional and all-around incredible person.
As this was my first birth, I knew little about pregnancy, labor, or newborn care (feeding, sleep, etc.). Dawn calmed my anxious brain by providing a ton of information and exercises leading up to birth. We collaborated on a birth plan, texted her random questions throughout pregnancy, and even had Dawn come over during early labor to walk us through contractions, find more comfortable positions, and determine when to go to the hospital. At the hospital, Dawn was a fierce advocate for me. She ensured that nobody touched me without asking, helped us get more information/clarity, and even lent her expertise to the nurses as we tried to find the best position for the baby, who was having heart decelerations.
When it became clear that I would be having an unplanned C-section, there was not much time to adapt. Dawn walked me through the procedure in a way that no doctor or nurse had bothered to. Her words ended up being incredibly helpful and she even stayed and waited, calming our nervous parents until she got word that everyone was healthy. I know many people do not think they will need a doula if they have a C-section, but I had the opposite experience.
Dawn was also our postpartum doula, coming over three days a week to help us navigate our new reality. Dawn is a sleep expert, and we now have a great sleeper thanks to her expertise. We felt supported the whole time and were able to catch up on much-needed sleep knowing our son was in the most capable hands.
When we hopefully have another child, Dawn will of course be our first call.
