My husband and I worked with Lola for this birth of our first son, and the whole pregnancy and labor process would truly have been so much harder and so much more stressful without her. We met with her a few times before birth, and she helped us to write our birth plan and make sure we had everything we needed for a new baby. Neither my husband or I have much experience with babies, so Lola was an invaluable source of information and encouragement as we got closer to my due date. I ended up going 10 days late, and I felt very supported as Lola was constantly checking in on me and giving me advice about my OB visits and keeping my spirits up. During labor (at Swedish First Hill), Lola was so helpful just by anticipating my needs like getting extra blankets or getting me snacks, and she was clearly super familiar with the facility, the providers, and the nurses. She was constantly helping me move into positions to move labor along and to help me get comfortable. In the end, my labor stalled (at 9.5 cm dilated!), and I ended up needing a c-section, but Lola helped me try as hard as possible to get the baby to move around a little so I could finish dilating. Although it didn’t work, and I still had the c-section, Lola’s help made me feel like I did everything humanly possible to try for a vaginal birth - she even convinced my OB to give me an extra hour to try to move baby around! She was also helpful and supportive postpartum. We didn’t do a postpartum doula, but Lola still checked in on us and helped connect us with a lactation consultant. I would highly recommend Lola to anyone who is looking for a doula!
