Alison was one of my doulas for my birth center birth - for my long-prayed for VBAC! She was with me for the majority of my laboring at home and even drove with us to the birth center where another doula also assisted in the birth. I cannot tell you how soothing, kind, CALM, and attentive she was for the entirety of my labor. It was as if she would feel the pain for me if she could. She allowed every part of this (VERY unfamiliar for me) labor process to just happen with so much peace in my heart. She made sure I was well taken care of, well fed, changing positions often and correctly, and was as much hands on as I wanted her to be. She did nothing without my permission, but was always right there and observing things I may need even before I needed them. One thing that would always make me chuckle was that she would say "okay are you feeling one now?" regarding the timing of my contractions... and I would say no... wait actually yeeeeEESSS. She was more on top of the timing than I could have ever been. She could tell by my breathing and body language more than I could tell about myself. She also had a wonderful way of cheering me on - was so positive and affirming - such an encouragement for a mama that didnt really know myself that I could do it - i just knew that I WANTED it.
Since my laboring was mostly at home, Alison helped me make the call at when it was time to drive to the birth center - and boy did she have good timing. She sat in the backseat with me and gave me pressure in my back labor, words I needed to hear, and even when I thought the baby would come out in the car, she was calm and assured me even that would not be the worst case! Her ability to talk me through my thoughts and fears was exactly what I needed.
After my birth, she was right there beside me to help my son latch and assist with any immediate breastfeeding needs. She was such a wonderful angel to my birth story! I highly recommend her!
