Giovanna was a lifesaver throughout my whole pregnancy, labor, and postpartum journey. During my labor, Gio communicated my preferences to the staff, offering suggestions and solutions when things didn't go to plan. Her knowledge of physiological labor and the hospital system is vast, and her expertise helped me feel secure through the many highs and lows. Gio carried the mental load at every step, allowing my partner to focus on supporting me and allowing me to be in my body and focus on birthing my baby. When I was deep in transition, Gio's voice was the only one that cut through the chaos. Then, when my baby and partner had to head to the NICU, Giovanna stayed by my side and managed everything that I couldn't possibly manage alone-- advocating for pain relief during my repair, packing up my belongings, and staying with me in my postpartum room until a family member could join me. After birth, Gio hand expressed me (while I slept!) and delivered my colostrum to the NICU for my baby, supporting my desire to breastfeed and allowing me the rest I so desperately needed. Gio's knowledge in lactation was a huge asset in the following weeks as I learned to feed my baby, and I truly don't think I would still be breastfeeding if it weren't for her help.
Beyond that, Gio took incredible photos that have allowed me to look back on my experience and remember all of the beautiful moments, instead of just the scary ones. Looking at these photos completely renewed my perspective of my birth and served as a reminder of my strength, the love and support I was surrounded with, and the journey of bringing my baby to this world. I am just in awe of all Gio has to offer, and how she shows up so fully in so many ways!
