I truly could not have done my labor experience without Susannah. Going into it, I had a birth plan that didn’t include an epidural - but when labor intensified beyond anything I expected, I caved and agreed to one when I offered. Susannah helped me navigate through that intensity with such skill and compassion, and because of her support, I successfully delivered Alex without an epidural.
Due to an unexpectedly quick escalation in my labor, we arrived at the labor and delivery unit without Susannah - I’m pretty sure I was already in transition. Needless to say, the details are a bit fuzzy for me, but everything felt chaotic. My husband tells me the entire room shifted in energy once Susannah arrived, and I have a distinct memory of her calm, whispering voice coming to greet me and assure me that everything was moving along normally and I was doing great. It snapped me out of an overwhelm that was overpowering me into a state of panic and insecurity.
She was my advocate when I couldn’t be for myself, stepping in exactly when I needed her most. Susannah brought exactly the calm, grounded energy I needed during the most intense experience of my life. I would work with her again in a heartbeat, and I can’t recommend her highly enough to anyone looking for a doula who will truly be there for you when it matters most.
