There is a difference between providing safe care and advocating for a patient. When you present to a hospital for care; the staff are willing and ready to hear a patient's birth plan and adhere to that safely. This doula tried refusing to allow medical staff including a MD to use a legal hospital interpreter while providing care for her including getting consent to administer postpartum bleeding medication. This doula also was asked what the infants Apgar's were since she delivered the infant in the car before arrival to hospital and she stated, "I don't know, I've never had a black baby." This doula does not provide safe, culturally competent care.
