We brought Jessica into our journey a few months before I would be due with our first baby. We were naive, starry-eyed, and nervous. She came to visit us in our home and was so warm and thoughtful in everything she presented us. My husband and I are not afraid to make informed decisions that are different than the recommendations of others, and Jessica made us feel so heard when we expressed some of these differences. Jessica even stayed much longer than our original meet times simply to talk and hear all about our concerns, hopes, and joy at welcoming a new baby into our world.
As we got closer to my due date, we found baby was breech and very comfortable in her position at that. Jessica came alongside us to coach me in all the inversions and things to do to help flip baby. Even though we were unsuccessful, I felt so supported and that I had genuinely done everything I could in the most educated manner I could thanks to her. She was even present when we attempted an ECV at our hospital, and was so helpful with distractions from the discomfort and words of encouragement.
Our C-Section was planned and we were excited. Jessica arrived early to sit with us before we went into prep, and she provided silly conversation, photography to capture our last moments as a family of 2, and generally made the entire first couple hours of waiting comfortable. In the OR, Jessica was right there holding my hand when I got my epidural, and was just a kind, gentle presence as we waited for the procedure to be over. She was taking precious photos all the while and I just remember feeling so joyful she was there to be able to capture them.
She stayed with us an hour after our girl's birth and I could just feel her joy for us and I genuinely loved having her there - it felt like she was my big sister there with us. The hugs and tears we shared are still remembered to this day!
