Rachael was an incredible doula, and I could not recommend her more highly. In our first meeting, Rachael was kind, a great listener, and made us feel respected and safe. I knew I wanted an unmedicated out-of-hospital birth. With this decision came the possibility of a hospital transfer, whether planned or emergent. I wanted a doula that would help me through that emotional transition, if it were to happen. It brought me peace of mind to know that Rachael would be there in that stressful moment.
I ended up having my dream birth experience. It was slow, then fast, incredibly difficult, yet immensely rewarding. Rachael was with us every step of the way. She supported me through 10 hours at home with a foley catheter. When I got discouraged, she led me in visualization exercises, which we prepared during our prenatal meetings. She provided a TENS unit and other counter stimulation to cope with the physical pain. We even worked together on a crossword between contractions to keep our spirits up.
When my labor picked up and contractions came so fast, Rachael calmly reassured me that we would make it to the birth center, that everything was okay and normal, and that I could do it. Her touch and words were a comfort throughout my labor. She kept me nourished with sips of whatever I would take, and she encouraged me to eat and stay fueled for the hard work I was doing. I was more likely to take a sip from Rachael than anyone else on my birth team; I knew that if Rachael was asking me to do something, it would be good for me and help my baby come sooner.
Rachael will meet you where you are at, listening and supporting YOU as a birthing person. She doesn’t have her own agenda, but will empower you to have your own unique birth journey. Rachael created an environment of safety and security. I will remember Rachael for the rest of my life, just as I’ll remember the birth of my beautiful baby.
