My husband and I went to every class offered to us and read a lot leading up to the birth of our first baby. Even still, having never gone through child birth before, we knew we wanted the extra support and guidance of a doula. We were so lucky to land Joyce! She brings with her a calm energy and reassuring confidence. She is supportive of birth preferences and ready to talk through your options if and when anything begins to go differently than you hoped. She helps you to be your own advocate and explore options but never oversteps with medical advice.
My goal was to have a natural unmedicated birth. I wanted to labor at home as long as possible. Unfortunately I ended up with pre-eclampsia and was recommended to be induced 11 days before my due date. Joyce was available to talk this through in the middle of the night. She was supportive of our decisions and ready to be by our side when we needed her.
She knew at every step during the birth what was happening and what the medical team would come in to discuss next. When I started to go through the transition phase of birth and felt like I might not be able to do it, she calmly told me that I already was. She reminded me of why I was feeling what I was feeling and prompted me to do different things that helped me progress through birth calmly and confidently.
I would absolutely hire Joyce again when we hopefully have our second baby. If she happens to be available when you need her, don’t think twice- hire her!
