I want to share my honest experience in hopes that it helps other families. During my labor, Jessica offered medical-related suggestions that conflicted with my providers’ instructions, including recommending that we stay home after my water broke. This placed me in a difficult position and added unnecessary anxiety.
When we later called her for support after spending the night in the hospital, she told us she was heading to a meeting and would come afterward. Given that my water had broken the day before—and that I had already delayed medical induction based on her earlier guidance—this felt particularly unsupportive.
Because I had a double mastectomy due to breast cancer, I explained early on that I was unable to breastfeed and was concerned about the safety of donor breast milk. Although I appreciated her initial offer to help, I clearly stated that I would only be comfortable accepting donor milk if the donors had medical testing(for Heb B, HIV), which I was willing to pay for. She continued to bring up the idea, and after my daughter was born, told me she had already contacted clients without confirming any screening. When I reminded her of the importance of screening, she replied, “My clients don’t have those diseases,” which dismissed my concerns.
Additionally, she used her phone in the OR during my C-section, which felt unprofessional in such a vulnerable moment.
I hope this feedback is helpful to others seeking support during such an important and vulnerable moment in their lives.
