Once I found out that I was pregant I knew I would need a special type of support which led me to searching for a doula. I have severe anxiety and panic disorder which I knew may be brushed off by doctors and nurses and could be seen as just typical behavior during labor. I needed someone to help guide me into advocating for myself and what I wanted for my labor and delivery. When I met Jenn I made sure to let her know the concerns I had specifically with the anxiety and panic along with approaching my very first experience with labor and delivery. From the first time I spoke with Jenn, I felt seen and heard by her, and that's how I knew that she was right for me. Jenn made sure to give me all of the knowledge I needed; all of the information on labor and delivery that there was out there that could help me to feel more at ease and a sense of control of a situation that I realistically had limited control over. I couldnt have asked for a better woman then Jenn to really help me through everything down to the decisions of how I wanted to labor and how I wanted to deliver. We wrote down my fears, we wrote down the "what if's" and we came up with solutions to all of the logical and crazy senarios that my mind spun up and at no point in time did I ever feel embarassed or ashamed or silly for telling Jenn about how I was feeling or what my anxiety was conjuring up inside me. I felt knowledgeable going into labor because we went through every senario imaginable, we went through all of the posibilities, options, and decisions beforehand- I felt a sense of readiness when it was finally time. I would choose Jenn again if I decide to have another baby because I feel seen and understood by her and I couldn't have asked for a better person by my side when I was going through delivery. Jenn became more than just my doula in this experience, she became a friend and someone I can truly rely on both in labor and delivery and even postpartum as well.
