We worked with Barbie for the birth of our second son, and she was awesome! Barbie is an amazing doula on so many levels. First, she is incredibly knowledgeable both about birth and about all of the places in Rhode Island for giving birth. In our case, we were at Women and Infants, and Barbie is clearly really well-versed in how the system there works. In our prenatal visits, she gave us so many details about how things work at WIH, and it was really amazing day-of to come in with so much information already. She also knows many of the practitioners there, and is full of helpful tips about how to make a birth experience there as good as it can be. She is also a wealth of knowledge about prenatal, birth, and postpartum stages--even though this was our second, and I'd been through the experience before, it was very helpful to talk with her through a variety of different scenarios and to feel prepared and confident. In the labor room, Barbie is an amazing presence--calming, knowledgeable, helpful, supportive. She was so thorough beforehand in working with us to understand our preferences, and then helping us to carry them out in the delivery room. She was an amazing support to both me and my husband, as well as our newborn once he was born. I really credit some of Barbie's tips and tricks with helping our son regain his birthweight so quickly. As far as postnatal visits, I really value how willing Barbie was to always meet us where we were. She was happy to help however we needed, whether it was cooking us a delicious meal or just holding the baby while we took our older son out for a pizza date. I can't recommend Barbie enough, she is everything we wanted in a doula!
