I am so grateful to have worked with Britney during my pregnancy and labor.
During my pregnancy, which was my first, Britney was an invaluable resource for helping to educate me and my husband about what labor would be like, what my medical and non-medical options would be throughout, and how we might make medical decisions when I was really "in it." She also went out of her way to do research and talk to experts about a concern my doctor raised for me that turned out to be unfounded. With Britney, I had not just an advocate in my corner but also an expert with experience and evidence-based answers (or who knew how to find those answers).
During labor itself, Britney kept in close contact with us once I had my first contractions. She helped us decide when to leave for the hospital -- we live on an island and had to take a ferry, so this required extra thought/logistics -- and met us at the hospital for my first round of triage, and she stayed with us for several hours as we decided what to do. After I was not admitted, she stayed in touch with us as my contractions intensified, even bringing a TENS unit to our hotel room at 3 am (!!!). Once I was eventually admitted to the hospital and received an epidural, she remained attentive and helpful, including by making sure I was moved to different positions from time to time. During pushing, she also helped move me into positions that helped my baby progress and that were better for my body.
The unknowns of pregnancy and labor were at times scary and confusing for me, but once we began working with Britney I quickly came to trust her and her insights and advice. She was a grounding presence, whether in person, by text, over the phone, or on Zoom, whose calm and caring vibe made pregnancy and labor much less stressful than it would have been without her. If we have another baby, I would love to work with Britney again.
