My husband and I found out that we were pregnant with our first child in February of this year. We obviously had lots of questions and wanted to approach our experience in the best way for us. We went back-and-forth on whether we wanted to hire a Doula and ultimately, we decided to move forward in aspirational hopes of minimizing as much medical intervention as possible an to have a dedicated advocate for our birth goals. We found Cheryl through this site and we knew right away that she was the right match and style for us. She was very attentive virtually and came to visit us in person at our home before and after our babys arrival. She answered our many late night worried texts and gave us a ton of advice helping to give us peace of mind. With lots of physical and mental prep, we were lucky enough to have less than a two hour labor, no induction, no epidural or pain meds and I pushed for less than 20 minutes giving birth to our healthy baby boy. I had no tearing, fast bleeding recovery, and was on my feet walking in less than 30 minutes. I was doing 1.5 mile walks within a week of being home. Our little guy was over four days late and I think without talking things through with her I would've jumped the gun on an induction, and I'm so glad that I did not. Despite us all barely making it on time to the hospital, we were still so grateful she was with us for our short labor. After all the doctors disappeared and we were in our room alone unclear on next steps she spent hours with us working on latching, hunting down nurses to ensure we could maximize skin to skin time, took pictures of our whole experience and made sure that we felt calm and comfortable before moving to the maternity floor. We had a lot of issues with breast-feeding after the fact and she helped us numerous times including a visit at home. We were very grateful as first time parents to have the extra guidance and advocacy throughout. Would highly recommend her to anyone.
