Britney is the best decision we've made for our family. Period. Britney Farmer Doula = BFD. Truly.
We are first time parents and weren't sure if a doula would be right for us...late in my pregnancy, I began to get very anxious about the actual experience of giving birth as I was really hoping to be able to do so as intervention-free as possible. We interviewed several doulas to see if we could find a good match for us and Britney impressed us immediately (and came highly recommended) with her evidence-based approach and her calming, good-humored-but-no-B.S. bedside manner. It was really important to us that we find a doula with a "team" mentality and Britney fit that to a tee. She went above and beyond in my third trimester to make sure we got to know each other, prenatally, and help educate us before I went into labor. Some of the sound-bytes from her prep work live in my brain rent-free and help me make good decisions for myself as a new parent.
I ended up delivering two weeks past my due date. Britney was an incredible cheerleader and sounding board during that time as we decided our path forward. In the end, I was able to deliver as I'd hoped - no interventions, just a lot of loving care and hard work on the part of Britney, my husband (under her tutellage), our amazing night nurse and myself. I contribute being able to cope with labor and remain calm, resiliant, and focused entirely to Britney and the way she led my birthing team. She was hands-on, ensuring as much physical comfort while also being so present, suggesting new approaches or activities when labor started to slow or when I needed a distraction. I'm so proud of us, all, for what we did. When I needed to advocate for myself or make decisions, Britney helped me to do so with confidence. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, we consider Britney to be a member of our family and we hope to work with her again. Thank you, BFD!
