As a husband, I wasn’t totally sure what a doula did before we started working with Hannah from Hudson Valley Birth Partners, but now I can’t imagine going through the birth process without her. From the first meeting, she made both of us feel comfortable and prepared. She answered every question we had, gave us realistic expectations, and helped us go into labor feeling calm and confident.
During the birth, Hannah was absolutely incredible. She knew exactly how to support my wife — physically and emotionally — and she also made sure I knew how to help. She never took my place; instead, she empowered me to be an active part of the process. She guided me through ways to comfort and encourage my wife, and when things got intense, her calm presence kept us grounded.
After our baby was born, Hannah continued to check in and offered so much support during those first few weeks at home. She helped my wife recover, made sure we were both resting and eating, and even gave me reassurance and practical tips for taking care of a newborn.
I can’t recommend Hannah and Hudson Valley Birth Partners enough. She’s compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly cares about the families she supports. Having her with us made the entire experience — from pregnancy to postpartum — smoother, less stressful, and so much more meaningful. If you’re even considering hiring a doula, do it. Hannah was worth every penny and more.
