Testimonial for Jet City Doulas
Jen, Mariah, and Katie are fabulous human beings, and we are so grateful to have them in our lives. In a provider I crave deep emotional connection in addition to solid knowledge of evidence, and these three absolutely know their stuff and form meaningful relationships with their clients. They showed up for us consistently, full of knowledge, skill, warmth, and generosity.
During pregnancy all three doulas spent lots of time getting to know us, answering our questions, and educating us. We learned about strategies for baby positioning, labor coping, partner support, lactation, breastfeeding, etc. I approached labor confidently given all that Jet City Doulas provided. My labor lasted 3.5 days, and I was pursuing an unmedicated vaginal delivery. Jen, Mariah, and Katie maintained contact, coached us, met us at the hospital multiple times for middle-of-the-night checks, came to our home to support us there for hours, and ultimately spent days in the hospital after I decided to stay there. We had to make hard decisions as it became clear that my very large baby was not positioned to descend, and our doulas were so supportive and patient as we talked through every step thoroughly before making our choices.
During the transition to an unplanned c-section, our doula talked us through what to expect and stayed by my side, which was so reassuring when the tone rapidly shifted around us. She made sure that I had a hand to squeeze during the scary moments, and I felt supported and joyful even though our baby's birth looked different from what I had hoped for.
After our son was born we had difficult interactions with medical providers, and all three doulas were in our corner through that. We were especially grateful for the many, many hours Jen spent with us navigating breastfeeding difficulties at home. I hope that everyone has people as wonderful as Jen, Mariah, and Katie to support them through this transformative time in life.
