I've never worked with a doula before, let alone thought about what they did or how they would contribute to my journey into motherhood. The compassion and empathy Mel shows to wife and me is not something I can put into words as well as I'd like to. The level of care they put into their craft shows how right a fit they are for this line of work; I've never felt so safe being vulnerable with someone I don't know well. They were always available to calm my frightened mind and help me feel more prepared with a wicked large library of books to borrow. Mel truly made my experience of labor a great one when I was so scared to have a cesarean.
