I started my search for a doula towards the end of my second trimester and since I wanted an unmedicated birth, I realized it was important for me to get support through the birth process. I was also taking Hypnobirthing classes and wanted a doula with Hypnobirthing experience. I talked to a few places and either the doulas weren’t available or they were way out of my budget.
I was glad that I found Valerie. I knew I liked her as soon as our initial conversation ended.
I actually wasn’t able to meet Valerie in person before my baby came, our initial meeting was supposed to be the following week. I texted Valerie in the morning after my mucus plug came out and as I was trying to figure out the labor. She provided support through text and monitored my contractions. We decided to meet in the hospital as they got stronger and closer together and by the time Valerie came I was in L&D and in the zone. She got right to massaging my lower back because I was feeling a lot of tightness there. She advocated for me according to my birth plan and tagged team with my husband to move me into different positions and giving me massages that were so helpful. She brought battery powered candles to decorate the room which was nice. I felt very supported through the process by her care and was able to go through it unmedicated.
Valerie stayed with us for a while after the baby was there to continue to make sure we were ok. I would definitely recommend her as a doula to anyone looking to get support for their birth!
