I'm a first time mom and when I found out I was pregnant, I knew my ideal birth was unmedicated so I began looking for a doula to support me and my husband. Stephanie stood out because of her many years of experience and professionalism. She came to every meeting very prepared to guide us - you don't know what you don't know! - and we both enjoyed swapping stories and getting to know her. Since she had not had a birth at Franciscan before, she had called the unit ahead of our first meeting to introduce herself and find out what resources were available in the delivery rooms. Communication was primarily through text and phone, with periodic check-ins at the end of pregnancy which were the perfect amount of attention. When I went into labor, she had given us a clear plan because I wanted to stay at home as long as possible. She let us know when she felt it was time to get to the hospital and actually beat us there despite her long drive. At the hospital, she took care of so many of the logistics while I couldn't make decisions. She worked really well with the rest of my care team, and my delivery nurse actually commented that she really liked working with Stephanie and was impressed by her knowledge and teamwork. Any time things started to go away from what she knew I had planned, Stephanie stepped in to help communicate my options and make suggestions. My birth experience could have been very upsetting if it weren't for the wonderful care and support I received from Stephanie and the rest of my team. I'm so grateful to her and can't imagine giving birth for the first time without her by my side. I can't recommend her enough, especially to first time parents and those seeking low-intervention births in a hospital.
